There is a special quality to a wooden toys that can't be explained. It is a quality that makes it more pleasing and fun to play with than a plastic toy.
Worried about germs? DON'T, studies have shown that wooded objects harbor no more germs than plastic objects. In fact, in some cases plastic harbors more germs. The most notable case is in kitchen cutting boards: for the same usage, a wooden cutting board that is wiped clean after every use will most likely harbor fewer germs than a plastic cutting board that is wiped clean after every use. Scientists are not sure why but the theory involves how the wood fibers interact with the germs.
This is not to say wood is cleaner, just that it is not "dirtier" than plastic.

This is a flipjack. It was one of my very first woodworking projects. I made it as a social studies project in middle school. It has seen many years of good use as you can see from the pictures. This type of toy is not easily found. I found a couple online but they looked mass produced (i.e. no character).
It is made of pine with no finish other than the paint on the acrobat. the
poses are actual poses obtained by flipping the acrobat. there are many
other possible poses. This toy provides hours of entertainment, developes
hand-eye coordination, and it is quiet.
It measures approx. 12" tall X 2" wide
