Caring for your new wood product
• Your product is made from real wood and needs the same care that any fine wood
product requires. The following instructions will ensure years of beauty and
enjoyment.
• Your product has been sealed with either shellac, lacquer, or hard wax. Then a
coat of wood furniture wax was applied and buffed to a high sheen. This process
provides a deep gloss shine at first. As you use your product, that shine will
usually wear to a satin type finish - this is normal. An application of any wood
furniture/floor polish or wax with buffing will return most of the original
gloss.
• It is recommended that you apply a quality wood furniture wax on a periodic
basis to maintain the good look of your product. It is best to apply to wax
using a soft lint-free cloth, let dry to a haze, and then buff to a shine with a
clean soft lint-free cloth.
• Do not use any cleaning agents not intended for use on wood. Never use any
kind of abrasive pad (ie. Brillo, ScotchBrite or similar cleaning pads) to clean
your wood or metal finish. Never use any cleaning or finishing product that
contains abrasives or cleaning agents in the formula. Car waxes have fine
abrasives in the formula to clean the surface and should not be used.
• The metal finish may be cleaned with a damp soft cloth. Do not use any
abrasives on the metal finish as the metal finish will be removed by the
abrasive.
Replacing pen cartridges
• Most pens come apart to give you access to the ink cartridge by pulling them
apart at some band near the middle of the pen; one exception is the Polaris
style pens. To access the ink cartridge in a Polaris pen, you need to unscrew
the tip (turn counterclockwise as you look into the hole where the pen tip comes
out) and this will reveal the ink cartridge.
• Ink cartridge replacements should be available at any good office supply store
or writing supply store. Be sure to replace the spent cartridge with the correct
style to avoid damaging your pen. If you have trouble finding a replacement,
contact 1-Unicarpenter-Oy (www.1-unicarpenter-oy.com) or Penn State Industries (www.pennstateind.com
or (800) 377-7297).
• Note: It is very difficult or impossible to remove the pen mechanism without
damaging the pen casing. Do not over twist the mechanism, as this may damage it.
If the mechanism does need to be replaced (extremely rare occurrence), seek
professional help.
Resupplying pencil leads
• As with most other mechanical pencils, lead is resupplied by pulling off the
click cover which exposes the eraser. Pull out the eraser, put several leads
(not more than 50) in the exposed storage hole, replace the eraser, replace the
click cover, and click several times until new lead is exposed.
• With two exceptions all the pencils available at 1-Unicarpenter-Oy use 0.7mm
lead. The two exceptions are the Combo pen and the Big cigar pencil; these
pencils use 0.5mm lead.
• Note: Pencils do not pull apart, do not try to do so. If you need to replace
the pencil mechanism (extremely rare occurrence), unscrew the tip and pull the
mechanism out the back end.
